Dehydrated Citrus Slices

external-file_edited.jpg

This month I’m dehydrating different types of fruit slices to use in both my indoor and outdoor holiday decorations. I researched several blogs, and they generally all had the same steps and suggestions.  Since I do not have a dehydrator or an air fryer I went with the traditional method of using my oven.   Below are the steps I followed:

Step 1:  Preheat your oven to 175 degrees.  If your oven has convection capabilities, this is highly recommended as the fan will remove moisture evenly.

Step 2:  Slice your fruit of choice (grapefruits, blood oranges, lemons, limes, or mandarin oranges) ⅛” to ¼” thick.  Gently blot them with paper towel to absorb juices.

Step 3:  Line a baking sheet pan with parchment paper and place the fruit slices on it in a single layer.

Step 4:  Bake them for 3-4 hours, flipping them every hour.  (Grapefruits will take a little longer).

Storing:  I’ve read that they will stay intact and good for up to 2 years if stored in a cool, dry place in an airtight container.  Never having done this before, I cannot confirm this, but I will next year!
