A Note Before You Start
I recommend using a mandoline to slice the potatoes thinly if you have one.
Ingredients
3 lbs of Russet Potatoes
1/2 cup of minced onion
4 TBSP of melted unsalted butter
3 cups of grated gruyere cheese
1 cup of room temperature half & half
1 tsp of salt
1/2 tsp of ground white pepper
1/2 tsp of garlic powder
1/3 cup of freshly grated parmesan cheese (optional)
Preparation
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees. In a large mixing bowl add all of the ingredients except for the potatoes, and the parmesan cheese.
Step 2: Peel and thinly slice the potatoes about 1/8th" thick, and add to the bowl with the half and half mixture. Toss well.
Step 3: Grease a 9" x 13" baking dish. Place the potato, cheese, and half & half mixture in even layers into the dish. Pour the remaining half & half mixture over the potatoes. Cover and bake for 40 minutes.
Step 4: Remove the potatoes and uncover. If using parmesan cheese, sprinkle on top and continue baking uncovered until the top is bubbling and just slightly browned; approximately 10 more minutes.
Step 5: Remove from the oven, cover and let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
Awesome!
